This year the Architecture and Design Conference 2012 - 4-5 June Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre 2012 co-located with Build4Asia Exhibition – is expecting record numbers of delegates as it asks: What is the future of architecture and design in the urban millennium?

Like looking into a crystal ball, in this its third year The Architecture and Design Conference will predict the value and direction of Asian design in the first millennium where over 50% of the world’s population live in cities.

Many of the topics will look not just at form or function but how a design can bring cultural and financial value to a development. In the past all-star speaker line-ups have included Ben Van Berkel, Sir Peter Cook and Thomas Heatherwick, as well as the Chairs and Regional CEOs of all the top architecture and design firms world wide.

Being co-located with Build4Asia offers an additional boost to this year’s conference. The 4-in-1 Trade Show covers Sustainability, Architecture, Design, Building Services and Electrical Engineering. The event now comprises Asian Elenex (successful since 1984), Asian Building Technologies, Asian Architectural Interiors and in its debut year Asian Hospitality Design & Technology

While technology and hotel design will be featured at the Architecture and Design Conference participants are also there to explore whether Asian architecture and interior design are growing with their own characteristics or are the new mega-cities going to be deserts of sameness? We will ask how can good design really set a project apart? And is the cost worth the reward?

We will look at case studies in the hotel and retail sectors showing how functionality, jaw-dropping design and sustainability are within reach of any project. Attendees will hear about the integration of technology and the pros vs cons of high rise developments.

As the premier architecture and design conference in the region the Architecture and Design Conference not only attracts top-tier professionals from developers, architects, designers, engineers and contractors, it also attracts significant high-level interest from government, educators, investors and community organisations. This year we will be asking them all to weigh in on the issue of the future of Asian architecture and design.

You can download a copy of the programme to view the topics that will be covered.
